Sābrs is a yearly festival in Riga, Latvia, dedicated to zines and small press culture. It brings together artists, independent publishers, and the public to share and explore self-published works. Named after the old Latvian word for neighbor, Sābrs stands for connection, exchange, and collaboration.
Sābrs marks its fifth edition this year with the theme PAPER MEMORY — an exploration of what analog formats mean in an age of digital overload, and paper as a lasting, personal carrier of memory. The main event is a market held on July 4–5, 2026, on the second floor of Āgenskalns Market, where visitors can browse and buy publications directly from their creators. Entrance is free. The festival also features workshops, exhibitions, and other events in nearby spaces.

Sābrs Work Room is a year-round creative hub in Āgenskalns that grows out of the ethos of the Sābrs festival — connection, exchange, and collaboration within the independent arts and small press community. It’s a flexible studio space where artists, illustrators, publishers, and creative makers can meet, work, experiment, and build projects.
Now you can donate to Sābrs!
Good news — we recently became an official non-profit organization, which means we can now accept donations. After receiving our first heating bills, it’s clear this winter won’t be easy (bills for heating could be really expensive in cold Latvia). Your support can help us keep the Sābrs Work Room alive through its very first winter.
Sābrs Festival and the Sābrs Work Room are closely connected. The festival was created to bring together independent artists and small publishers, and the Work Room is the next step — a permanent space where this community can meet, create, and collaborate throughout the year.If you choose to support us, please indicate “Donation” in the payment reference when making the transfer.
